In English Haft Sin literally means ‘7 S spread’ as in 7 items that begin with the Persian Letter ‘Sin’ Meanings for the table and the items meant to be on it are numerous and varied, most likely due to the holiday being so ancient that its meanings have shifted over time. Many people include more than seven items. Here is a basic list of items that might be present: garlic, grass, wheat paste known as samanoo, vinegar, sumac, coins, goldfish, mirror, candlesticks, water in a bowl, eggs, and hyacinth flower. Avang Records

Avang Records is an absolute gift to the world. Sure it’s a great record label with dozens of wonderful Persian artist, but it’s more than that. Avang Records is based in America and they find Iranian artist that might never be heard if it was not for them. Currently Iran doesn’t allow most singers to produce music. Female voices are frequently banned too. Singers in Iran must remain underground unless they pass the strict regulations set up by the government. Add to this that Iran doesn’t have good copyright laws or music distribution methods and it starts to seem amazing that any Iranian singers are every heard from at all. But thanks to Avang Records Youtube Channel , the world can hear the latest in Persian music. Now if only they would subtitle their work to English 🙂
